This uploader allows you to rotate images based on EXIF data, apply sharpening and receive better error reporting in case of trouble.

In the next few weeks we hope to upgrade it further with HTTP protocol upload support for those people who have issues with FTP connections.

If you have any trouble using the new uploader please let us know as soon as possible with as much information as you can. There is also a checkbox that you can click to use the older upload for now.

Also, the Flash asset is now called the Flash/Movie asset as you can now upload MP4 video files easily into your regular pages. The movies, if encoded with H.264 video and ACC audio codecs will be compatible in mobile devices that do not support Flash such as on the Apple iPhone and iPad.

You can edit these privacy settings within the Account Controls > Manage Your Account.

Added SEO Friendly Links

URLs will no longer contain question marks or other variables. A URL friendly page name will also be included in the link to help with SEO. An example of the change is as follows:

http://www.mywebsite.com/?PageID=200899 now becomes http://www.mywebsite.com/200899/my-page-name/

All older links will still function with proper 301 redirects to the new page names so search engines should have no problem catching up with the changes. Your Google sitemap.xml files will also be updated to reflect these changes.

Please note that as certain characters, including some foreign letters and accents, are not allowed in URLs some page names will be stripped of these or replaced with other letters from the English alphabet.

Upload Issues

We are pleased to report that our changes seem to have rectified the problem as we have had no complaints about uploads in the past few days. We believe however, that it is possible that they could return under extremely heavy amounts of uploads. So in the next day or so we will be switching the processing of files back to our older inline method where files are processed directly after each file is uploaded to the server. We will be using the newer faster script to do the processing however, so uploading should be faster than what you're used to and you will no longer have to wait to see the files appear on your site.

Many of you will have realized by now that our regular gallery uploads have not been working as expected. If the system is under load from a large group of uploads, then there is a long delay before your images will appear in your galleries. Obviously this is not ideal.

We spent the night re-programming our image post-processing scripts to be more efficient. Our tests show that we can now process files about 2.5 times faster than before. We would like to see how the new scripts hold up under real-world usage today. If this new approach fails, then we will implement our old method of processing the files during the upload sequence instead of afterwards.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and ask that you bear with us a little longer so we can find the most efficient means of getting your files online.

Whatever your feelings are on the risks vs. rewards of sharing your images online, you should know that Pinterest may not drive as much traffic back to your site as you deserve. Furthermore there is some scary legalese about Pinterest being granted indefinite use to share and profit from any image shown on their site regardless of who posts it!
